Cereal Box Props
We’re preparing for the biggest Product BoxSM game we’ve ever played as part of the pro bono publico work we’re doing for SD Forum. The event is being held Nov. 16 at SAP Labs in Palo Alto, CA, and I hope you can join us. You can click here for event details and directions. The speakers are incredible, and the event will be a lot of fun.
Although the event is over three weeks away, we’re planning for 125+ people organized into 12 to 16 tables of roughly nine people per table. I like to have at least two props per table, which means that I’ve been saving cereal boxes for a few weeks now. I think it I’ll hit my goal of 30 boxes—four kids helps, and I’m betting you can get a sense of their ages by the distribution of the boxes (more than half are Kix® or Cheerios®—interesting to note that Kix doesn’t seem to have a dedicated web site).
I’ll bring along some other sample boxes, but I really like cereal boxes. They are colorful, fun, and you can pick a wide range of styles to match your mood, subject area, or audience. They also contain several design elements that you can leverage when playing Product BoxSM game, including:
- The name of the manufacturer
- The name of the product
- A ‘data sheet’ (nutritional information)
- Colorful characters, designed to appeal to kids
- Healthy slogans, designed to appeal to moms
- Coupons or points, to encourage repeat purchases
- Offers for ‘free stuff’ inside the box
- Ideas on how you can spend more money (“Send $4.95 for a free watch!”)
Equally important, cereal boxes are part of just about everyone’s life, making them very easy to acquire and manage.
