GlobalLogic: Using Games to Shape Products
We had two days of fun filled and very effective sessions with Luke Hohmann on ‘Innovation Games’ .You could read more about these games at http://innovationgames.com/the-games/
Initially, I was a little apprehensive about the sessions as I was involved in preparing for these sessions and there was quite some stuff including stickers to be collected. I was wondering what kind of a session was this. Something to do with arts and crafts?.
The overviews of the games was good. Was still wondering what the applications of these games could be. Once we started playing the games, I realized the power these games had. We talk about collaboration and group activities to accomplish objectives. The techniques are such that all participants were eager to contribute and we ended up learning tools which we could use in our work and in our daily lives too and at the same time have fun.
To decide a roadmap you do not have to sit through long meetings, we can play ‘Prune the product tree’. Do you have to decide priorities for features? Why don’t you play ‘Buy a feature’. Developers are not willing to write unit tests. Find out what’s ailing them. Play ‘Speed boat’. All of the twelve games that Luke mentions in his book are excellent tools to achieve various goals.
I was not disengaged for a split second through the two days, thanks to Luke. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentations and the anecdotes. You have to hear Luke to realize what a great presenter he is.
