SDForum Open Source Think Tank
This afternoon I moderated the SDForum Open Source Think Tank event using the Remember the FutureSM game. Some of the people attending the event were the press, and I’m looking forward to read their impressions about the event.
Laura Merling from SDForum and Andrew Aitkin from the Olliance group organized participants into six groups, carefully selecting participants to ensure high quality discussions. The questions that we presented, one to each of the six groups, were as follows (note the phrasing of the questions):
1) Imagine it is the year 2010. What where the ways that software companies leveraged open source to drive revenue?
2) Imagine it is the year 2010. How did open source change customer usage models?
3) Imagine it is the year 2010. How did open source impact global software innovation?
4) Imagine it is the year 2010. How did the commercial open source community evolve over the past five years? What was the role of open source consortiums, standards bodies and foundations in this evolution?
5) Imagine it is the year 2010. What were the key issues surrounding commercial open source licensing over the past 5 years? How did the community of commercial open source providers and their customers resolve these issues?
6) Imagine it is the year 2010. How did commercial open source impact software business models?
I invite readers of this blog to take a stab at answering these questions. What do you think will be the future of open source?
